Watch Megan Wilcox, 2011 graduate of Excelsior College and student speaker, talk about how she earned her associate of science degree in nursing.

I always knew that I wanted to be an RN, and I knew Excelsior was the program for me. A traditional program would not work for my lifestyle. If it wasn't for the flexibility of the program, I would not have been able to get my RN. To prepare for the CPNE, I used an Excelsior workshop. I also submitted care plans through the message center that were edited almost in real time and sent back to me by faculty, giving me feedback right away. [APPLAUSE] To the Stanford Faculty, you are the faces at the workshop in CPNE that prove that there are real people who work for Excelsior College. And so many times I would think to myself, how will I ever get through this? But then, I would read a response from one of the staff on the message board, answering a question in a simple, comforting, straightforward way, and I would push on. Going through the process, I thought that commencement day was going to be the end, and I was going to be so happy to walk away with my RN. Now that I'm here, and I realize what I've already accomplished, I have to go on and pursue more education. Excelsior has changed my life by giving me many more opportunities in the nursing field. As an RN with an Excelsior background, I feel like I can really accomplish anything in the field. The option to learn in the non-traditional way is so valuable, because it does open up doors that are otherwise closed for many of us. In the words of Milton Berle, if opportunity doesn't knock, build a door. Congratulations to the graduating class of 2011. [CHEERS]
